Baseball falls in final game against Cincinnati-Clermont
(Cincinnati, OH) - The Rochester Christian baseball team rounded up its three-game series with Cincinnati-Clermont on Monday afternoon. Cincinnati-Clermont would earn the series win with a back-and-forth 10-9 walk-off victory on Tuesday afternoon. RCU moves to 6-7 on the season.
Dakota Shafer opened the game on the mound for the Warriors, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing 10 hits with six runs (five earned), he struck out one batter in the game.
After both teams left runners stranded in the first inning, both teams would tally runs in the second with Matthew Shakotko hitting an RBI groundout that would score Reece Jones. The Cougars were able to tie and take their first lead of the game by piecing together multiple hits in the bottom half of the inning.
The Cougars were able to score five runs over the next two innings as the RCU bats stayed quiet until the fifth when they would tie the game back up with five runs. Jayden Peterson and Aiden Alspaugh both grabbed RBI hits in the inning, while Issander Vega had an RBI groundout and Dakota Shafer would score on a wild pitch as the game was tied back up.
The Warriors' bats stayed hot for a second straight inning, plating three runners in the sixth with Cael Kuzinsk, Issander Vega, and Parker Lassner all hitting RBI singles to give the Warriors a 9-6 lead.
The Warriors' three-run lead wouldn't last long as the Cougars would able to get a run closer in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double. RCU threatened to add insurance runs in the seventh with Jayden Peterson hitting a leadoff triple, but was ultimately unable to come around and score.
The final half inning would see two Cougars reach base on a hit by pitch and a walk, before both runners would score on a pair of RCU fielding errors as they would earn a walk-off win.
Will Pflaum was the second pitcher out of the bullpen for RCU with 2.1 innings pitched, allowing four hits with two runs and a pair of strikeouts. Landon Fahey (0-1) would come in the close the game out, coming in to pitch in the sixth inning, not allowing a hit, but giving up the tying and winning runs (both unearned).
