Baseball drops pair of games to Kentucky Christian on Friday

(Campton, KY) - The Rochester Christian baseball team began its spring season on Friday, as it headed down to Kentucky to begin a four-game series with Kentucky Christian. The Warriors would fall in game one of the series after taking an early lead. The Warriors are now 2-2 on the season.

 

GAME 1 - KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN 13, ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 5

Matthew Redmond (2-1) took the mound for the first four innings of the game, allowing eight runs with a pair of strikeouts. 

 

The Warriors got on the board right away with three runs in the first inning. Matthew Shakotko grabbed the first RBI of the game with his single before a Warriors walk led to back-to-back bases-loaded walks by Jayden Peterson and Issander Vega to bring in the second two runs. The Knights would respond right back with four runs, including a three-run home run. 

 

The next three innings for the Warriors would see the top halves of the innings move quickly as RCU would leave two runners on base. The fifth inning saw Kayvon Justice hit a double and Matthew Shakotko earn his second RBI by singling Justice in. KCU put up seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a commanding 13-4 lead. 

 

The Warriors would threaten in both the sixth and seventh innings, and be able to tally one run in the seventh following a Cael Kuzinski double and eventually being able to come around and score. 

 

Louis Frontero pitched .2 innings, allowing five hits. Tryce Davis pitched the final 1.1 innings, allowing one hit, earning all four outs by way of strikeouts. 

 

GAME 2 - KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN 16, ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 3

Joey Wagner (0-1) took the mound for the first time in 2026, pitching a pair of innings, allowing five runs on three hits, striking out a pair. 

 

The first inning would once again see the Warriors put up three runs. Cael Kuzinski led off with a double beforecoming around to score on an error. Aiden Alspaugh would then come up and nab his second home run of the season, scoring Kayvon Justice. The Knights responded by tallying five runs in the bottom of the inning. 

 

The next three innings saw the Warrior offense go cold, tallying two hits with one runner left on base. The fourth inning had the Knights break the game open, tallying 11 runs in the inning. 

 

The Warriors tallied one hit in the final three innings, with Reece Jones hitting a double in the seventh. 

 

Will Pflaum pitched 1.2 innings, allowing two hits and striking out two batters. Joseph Arends pitched the next .1 innings. Connor Forman finished the final two innings, allowing two walks and striking out one batter. 

 

TOP PERFORMERS

Matthew Shakotko led the offense on the day with three hits, while Aiden Alspaugh and Cael Kuzinski each tallied two hits. Alspaugh hit a home run, while Kuzinski hit a pair of doubles. Shakotko and Alspaugh both had two RBIs.

The Warriors are back on the field tomorrow, February 21, as they continue the four-game series against the Knights with games at 12 and 3 PM.
