Baseball Falls Short In Final Doubleheader Against Lourdes

ROYAL OAK, MI - The Warriors weren't able to secure a win during their doubleheader against Lourdes on Sunday afternoon, falling short in two tightly contested contests at Memorial Park.

In the first game, Rochester saw a great pitching performance from senior Nick Gajewski, who threw 65 strikes in 114 pitches, keeping the Gray Wolves scoreless for the first five innings. The Warriors and Gray Wolves were both locked at 0 runs until the fifth inning, where Dylan Fleming capitalized on a Lourdes error and stole home.

After the Gray Wolves took the lead back in the sixth inning, Nick Czajka hit a single and Colton Maher walked to both get on bases. That set up a Dominic Scalzo double that got both runners to home plate.

In the final inning, Rochester was unable to sustain the momentum, as Lourdes loaded the bases and got the lead back on a 2 RBI single. The Warriors couldn't get anything going on its own end to get the win.

In the second game, Lourdes got two quick runs to take an early 2-0 lead. After a few scoreless innings, Rochester got some life with Deyante Fossett and Luke Jayaraman getting RBIs in the 5th and 6th innings to tie the game.

The Gray Wolves caught fire in the 7th inning, loading the bases again and using that to their advantage. Lourdes logged five runs to create a tough deficit for Rochester, as a Jayaraman sacrifice fly for Lucas Bateman wasn't enough to get back into it.

Rochester is currently scheduled to face off against Madonna University at home on Tuesday.
