TROY, MI - Warrior Baseball will begin its WHAC season with a doubleheader against the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils at Warrior Park in Troy, MI. The opening pitch will be made at 1:00 PM.
"The big thing for us is to go out there and have fun playing hard," Head Coach Scott Kunert said. "I would love to see us play loose and have fun because that is the type of team personality that fits us best."
There will certainly be a transition period for both teams, as the cold Michigan weather will be in stark contrast to the spring games each team played down in Florida the week prior.
"Cold weather will certainly affect a lot of our conference games," Kunert said. "It makes it tougher for the offense to score runs because balls don't carry as much. You have to be a disciplined team offensively and use tools like bunts and stolen bases to score runs."
Due to the weather complications, Rochester will play the game at Warrior Park in Troy, MI. The Warriors will look for energy from the home crowd to get WHAC play started strong.
"For our fans, I hope they can get excited for the aggressiveness we are capable of playing with," Kunert said. "We can hit with some power, play small ball, and run the bases well."
After a tough start to the season, Kunert and the team are even more motivated to bring some momentum their way early on.
"We've struggled to start the year, but with failure in this game comes learning," Kunert said. "We have learned a lot about our game and how we need to play to be successful."
