Hockey drops WHAC openers to #19 Indiana Tech

(Rochester Hills, MI) - The Rochester Christian men's hockey team opened up its Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) slate against the #19 Indiana Tech Warriors this weekend. Indiana Tech would wind up taking both games in the series. RCU falls to 3-4-1 on the year, while IIT moves to 2-3-0. 

FRIDAY - INDIANA TECH 12, ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 0

The opening game of the series was all Indiana Tech as they put up 12 goals in the match. 

Trey Hoffman (0-3-0) played the whole match in net for RCU. Hoffman would make 63 saves in the game on the 75 shots faced. 

Indiana Tech was able to capitalize on the power play, scoring four times out of the six opportunities, while Rochester Christian had two opportunities of their own. 

SATURDAY - INDIANA TECH 13, ROCHESTER CHRISTIAN 2

Indiana Tech would once again explode on the offensive end, netting five goals in the first, two in the second, followed by six in the final period. RCU scored a goal in each of the first and second periods. 

After three IIT goals to open up the game, Garrett Benoit netted his second goal of the season, which was unassisted. 

The second 20 minutes saw Shaun Zatelli reach double-digits in goals on the season with his 10th on assists from Cole Zalewski (4) and Connor Fredricks-Stebbens (4). 

Nicholas Spognardi (2-2-1) made 66 saves against the 79 shots he faced throughout the 60 minutes played. 

Indiana Tech once again saw success on the power play, scoring four goals on its five different opportunities,

RCU will have a week off before returning to WHAC play against the #RV Cleary Cougars on Halloween weekend. The Warriors will be at home on the 31st at 7 PM, before traveling to Howell on Saturday at 8 PM.
